What a fantastic start to the school year we have had. The children are so happy, engaged and settled that it's hard to believe that we have only been in school for two weeks. I'd also like to add a special shout out to all the co-opers old and new that have have contributed greatly to this smooth start. We are so grateful for and awed by this amazing committed community!
Speaking of community- we have been hard at work building and strengthening our own classroom community of learners here at CNS. In the upstairs circle they have been getting to know all the names of their new friends, helping out with classroom jobs, singing songs, reading books, and generally just practicing how to be part of a community of other children. They have also been talking about and thinking about colors and color mixing and did a really fun project where they all worked together to mix colors on a big piece of paper to create a collaborative mural.
In the downstairs circle we have also been working on creating and strengthening our community of friends and learners. Specifically we have talked about how in our downstairs circle community we really only have two rules. The first and most important is: Be Kind. We talked about all the ways that at school it is important for us to be kind to our friends, our teachers, the co-opers, our school and to ourselves and what specifically that looks like. The other rule of course is to HAVE FUN which luckily we get to practice every day here at CNS! We have also been busy learning the names of our new friends and have even learned a couple of fun name songs. We have also been learning some other songs that we can all sing together since singing is one of our favorite ways to come together as a community.
