Established in 1967, the Cooperative Nursery School is a non-profit, parent owned-and-operated preschool. "Cooperative" is the operative term in the name of our nursery school. Parents, through the school's various committees and structures, are responsible for every aspect of the school's operations: hiring, setting tuition and school policy, purchasing supplies, fund-raising, recruiting students, working side-by-side with teachers, preparing snacks, and cleaning toilets. The school was conceived as a meeting place where all segments of the community can work together and get to know each other better. Cooperative parents would have a strong sense of responsibility and group cooperation, which would carry over into every aspect of community life. Though there have been many changes in the nursery school - and in our society - during the past 50 years, these benefits hold still true.
